Ignition Interlock Device Required

If you were arrested for Driving Under the Influence in the State of Tennessee and have a BAC of .15 %, you should be aware that in order to drive a motor vehicle you will be required to install an ignition interlock device on your vehicle.

How Does an Ignition Interlock Device Work
If the driver fails to provide a breath sample or had a BAC level over the preset limit which is between .02% and .05% in the State of Tennessee, the interlock device will issue a warning which may consist of your horn honking or lights going off. These alarms are meant as a deterrence to prevent the driver from driving off without blowing into the device. The interlock device may also be designed

to give “rolling tests” which means that at some random interval, usually between 5 and 30 minutes, the interlock device will require the driver to blow into the device. This is for the purpose of preventing other passengers being driven in the vehicle from blowing into the interlock device for the driver. If you have an interlock device installed on your vehicle, you can expect a calibration of the unit within 30 days of installation and then every 60 days until it is removed. There is a monthly fee associated with having the device in your car as well a fee associated with the implementation, calibration and removal of the device.

  • $130 (refundable down payment of $65 plus first months rental which is $65)
  • $65 per month
  • $12 Per Calibration with calibration due 30 days after installation an then every 60 days thereafter
